Terrific post, Joan. The practice of focusing on one's legacy (and focusing executives on their legacies) has really struck a chord with me. While it’s highly unlikely that I will have gazillions of dollars to leave to noteworthy charities like Bill Gates is doing—unless I win the lottery, ten times in a row!--through my teachings with clients and colleagues and the thought leadership I share via my articles, workshops, blog and speeches, I am constantly sharing and advocating best practices.

While I’ve always been focused on how those teachings work to improve the profession today, your good points make me realize how they can help in the future, too. It’s a practice and focus that I’ll be sharing with my clients as it’s very empowering.
